Required CMS Disclosures for ASCs

In 2009, CMS enacted regulations that require ASCs to disclose whether physicians have a financial interest in the ASC, and what a patient’s rights and responsibilities are.  Furthermore, CMS required that this be performed prior to the patient arriving at the ASC on the day of surgery.  In addition, if audited, ASCs had to be able to provide evidence to CMS showing how they complied with the provisions for each patient.

Needless to say, this created a logistical and compliance nightmare for most ASCs.  However, Medical Web Technologies proactively created a solution to simplify compliance with CMS’s new regulations.

One Medical Passport is easily configured to include a compliance section that addresses both the financial disclosures and a patient’s rights and responsibilities.  These are available both as written documents and as an audio file that can be played real time.  The system then tracks that each patient indicates that they have read and understand the financial disclosures and their rights and responsibilities.  This data is then stored in a full compliance report.
